• Leca stands for ‘Lightweight Exfoliated  Clay Aggregate’. Weight of this smallest sized Leca Pack will be 450 Grams. These smallest size (3-7mm) of Leca balls are most commonly used with succulents and cactus plants.

• Gardeners prefer to use it for drainage and upper soil cover of cactus and other small plants. Use of this size Leca can be an alternative to use of river sand in potting mix. Because these Leca are lighter than river sand. Additionally, they are used to make soil-less potting mix for succulents and many more plants.

• These balls can absorb water upto some extent. These are used as soil conditioner for plants. All other larger sizes of these Leca balls are also available with us. These clay balls are light weight and ensure better health of plants.

• This smallest size of Leca will be helpful in temperature control of potting mix during extreme hot or cold weather and for better drainage. Use of Leca for mulching (top dressing) of plants is very useful. Leca balls helps plants in protection from weather adversity(i.e. Winter and Summer). Leca Balls are also used for thermal insulation and filling material in construction industry.

• Moreover, volume of these Leca is more than stones, hence in purchase of less Leca Balls, you can cover more area of soil with this. On contrary, if you buy stones/pebbles, you need to spend more for buying more weight of stones. If we use traditional pebbles /stones over soil of plants, roots aeration is hampered upto some extent due to heavy weight of stones.

• In addition to this, stones are not capable to absorb moisture. But Leca balls can get moisture and contribute in creating humid atmosphere around plants and succulents. Requirement of humidity is most important, especially during hot summer.

• Ph value : 7-8, An ideal growing medium must not be too acidic or basic. pH value of these clay balls is neutral.

• Use of Leca for mulching (top dressing) of plants is very useful. Leca balls helps plants in protection from weather adversity(i.e. Winter and Summer). Leca Balls are used for thermal insulation in construction industry. Civil engineers and students use these Leca balls for various construction projects as a light weight filling material.

• These balls are very light weight and popularly used in terrace gardening and gardening with vertical pots. With use of these balls, potting media becomes very light weight.

• For experiment, we mixed samples of all four sizes of Leca balls and tried to submerge in water filled glass pot (image is shown for your reference). We observed them floating over water due to light weight.
