Height:  1.5 Foot,

Common Name- Champa

This is a drought tolerant plant and it can withstand high temperature during summer. This is a sun loving plant and blooms Red flowers. The best part of this plant is that it does not get attacked by insects. Moreover, cattle also do not eat leaves of this plant. We can also grow this plant in balcony with direct sunlight of 04 hours. This plant can grow in diffused sunlight also, but blooming will reduce.

Plant lovers like to grow this plant due to its beautiful deep red, yellow, mix of three colours (red, yellow and white), pink or pure white flowers (as per variety). This variety of Champa will bloom Red flowers.  It can grow faster in full sunlight with less water. Bloom time is for full year (except frost, extreme cold). Blooming is maximum during summer season. This plant can grow upto height of 20 feet or even more like a tree. If we do not prune this regularly, it can become a tree. It's a long life plant. The plant performs best in big size containers (8 inch or more) or plant them on ground. If you have done its plantation on open ground or soil, requirement of fertilizers will reduce, because roots can grow deep in ground to absorb needful nutrients. But if you are having the same plant in pot, you must add some liquid fertilizers or vermi-compost periodically for better results. Because roots cannot grow beyond pot.

This plant is almost maintenance free. Even without fertilisers, this plant will show satisfactory growth. However, use of fertiliser shows faster growth and more blooming. During extreme cold season, its leaves may suffer temporary damage. Even with low level of atmospheric humidity (20% ), this plant continues to grow healthily.

Watering & Sunlight:           We should water it whenever soil has become fully dry. Drainage in pot is necessary by making sufficient holes in bottom. To make the ideal potting mix, 20 % drainage media (river sand/ crushed Leca/ Perlite/ Pumice or rice husk- use any one of them) in potting mix should be available. During extreme cold, give very less water and try to protect from cold.

Use : This plant is widely used in landscaping and terrace gardening.

  • Slow release or organic fertilizers applied to the ground are the most effective; however foliar feeds are also valuable for a quick effect and to help keep the leaves healthy.
  • Mulching with organic matter (a very wide range is available) is a very important part of rose growing, helping to conserve water, keeping the ground cool and feeding the micro-organisms and worms in the soil.
  • Regular watering is essential, the rose will be stronger, healthier and, most importantly, produce more flowe
  • Early spring is the best time to prune and cut 1/4 inch above a bud eye so the bud eye doesnt dry out.
